Senior Concert Band 11 - 12 Course Outline
COURSE: SENIOR CONCERT BAND DIRECTOR: Ms. Frederick and Mr. Schnellert
METHOD BOOKS: Grade 11/12 Standards of Excellence 3, and Symphonic Warmups
MATERIALS: •Instrument in working order •3 Reeds (if needed) •Method Book • Pencil • Binder or folder with Sheet Music • Also, bring your positive team attitude and energy!
INSTRUMENT STORAGE: Instruments MUST be in a cabinet. Stick a label with your FULL NAME and GRADE on your instrument so that it “stands out”. Clarinets and Flutes; store instruments in your locker or backpack.
CONTENT/ROUTINE: Every week, we select 5 lessons from your method book (about 1,000 lessons from 8-12). Each class, we also rehearse our songs, and you’ll have home practice assignments, posted on the Weekly Lessons page.
HOME PRACTICE: Gradually, you will become an amazing musician, one small step at a time, if you practice. MINIMUM is 1.5 hours per week. You must keep track of your practice sessions your Method Book, and parents will sign. Try at least two 45 minute sessions a week.
PERSONALIZED: If you want more challenges, we will give you more solo music with CDs to accompany (like karaoke), and we encourage you to sign up for Senior Jazz, and/or combos.
EVALUATION: 90% “Classroom Performance” 10% is “Concerts”. Students have the OPTION to perform playing tests that are customized for each student, in order to boost the formative standing before report cards, and/or, if the directors "strongly suggest" that students prepare a portfolio. This option is usually exercised by students who need to have very high grades to support their overall GPA, and post-secondary goals.
Students are always encouraged, and welcomed, to consult with their director to review or take on higher challenges to improve their standing
