SENIOR JAZZ BAND OUTLINE
This course in Jazz Band will continue to offer participants a variety of experiences in the performance and appreciation of Jazz Band music. It recognizes that the group is comprised of a range of 2 grades and offers challenges for all levels. Some students have had only 3 years of experience, while others have had 6 years.
Jazz Band participants will perform all of the Senior swing band music in addition to rock, pop, funk and latin forms. Students will continue to develop their improvisation and performance skills through a variety of theory workshops and exercises.
Students will participate in Festivals and multiple performance opportunities during the year. Attendance to all performances is mandatory.
MATERIALS NEEDED: •Quality Instrument •3 Reeds (if needed) •Standards Of Excellence 2 Method Book • Pencil • Binder or folder with Sheet Music • Positive team attitude and energy
HOME PRACTICE: Gradually, you will become an amazing musician, one small step at a time, if you practice. MINIMUM is 1.5 hours per week.
EVALUATION: 80% “Classroom Performance”; your director hears you playing in your group. 10% is “Playing Tests” (about 6 per year), and 10% is “Concerts”.
INSTRUMENT STORAGE: Instruments MUST be in a cabinet. Stick a label with your FULL NAME and GRADE on your instrument so that it “stands out”. Clarinets and Flutes; store instruments in your locker or backpack. Do NOT leave your instrument in the hallway outside of the music room.
