OKM Choir Course Outline
Instructor: Ms. Frederick & Mr. Schnellert
Following in our strong OKM Music tradition, we are pleased to offer this credited choral course for all OKM students. Grade 8 - 12 students are welcome to enjoy singing in the OKM High School Choir. We often perform together with other school groups, and this year, our partnership with Commercial Music will be a main focus. We enjoy singing a wide variety of music, in full harmony. We understand our target audiences, and we build performances where the musicians and audience will have the best appreciation and glee for each other.
Teachers and students will collaborate to create custom rehearsal tracks for all vocal parts. See this example of a recent Broadway Musical. Thus, students can rehearse all harmonies and parts at school or at home, with best support.
This is an externally timetabled course. It is a year long "group project", where our performances create "one sound", with contributions by all musicians. Therefore, excellent attendance and rehearsal performance is crucial to your, and our, success. Many course hours are completed during our performance runs.
Our music is selected to best match our vocal range and blends between Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass sections.
To learn parts at home:
MATERIALS: Pencil, Music Folder
EVALUATION: 90% “Classroom Performance” 10% is “Concerts”. Students have the OPTION to perform tests in order to boost the formative standing before report cards, and/or, the directors could "strongly suggest" that students perform tests. This option is usually exercised by students who need to have very high grades to support their overall GPA, and post-secondary goals.
