Itinerary - Senior OKM Europe Tour 2017: "Regrowth"
10 Day Performing Tour to Holland and Germany: Dates: March 15-24, 2017
The goal of Tour 2017 is to connect our Canadian OKM Senior Band Students with the cultures and youth in Holland and the Netherlands, with some touring and sightseeing in Germany. Our theme is "Purpose, Belonging, and Gratitude", which we will express in our chosen music with shared values. We are creating music that will be a testimony and exploration of the thoughts, feelings, and understandings that are shared between people of the Netherlands and Canadians, as influenced by World War II.
Our OKM Senior Band students have the opportunity to express the deep sentiments of our community, while standing at the site of seminal events in Canadian history. In Holland, we are connecting with several youth musical groups. As our OKM Senior music students develop their perspectives through the lens of "young adulthood", by discovering and considering the experiences of others - where the communities and cultures are both the creators and destroyers of architectural, cultural, political and environmental realms - our youth can better view the present with a deeper understanding of the past, to find our place within this constant continuum of change.
When we return, we will share our sentiments through our music to honour veterans at the OKM "Remembrance Day Assembly" in 2017.
