Additional Optional Performance Opportunity for Grade 11/12 Students
An extra performance opportunity has arisen that I would like to explore with parents and students. One of my favourite jazz fusion bands, Snarky Puppy, is performing at the Moore Theatre in Seattle on Sunday February 25th. If you have never heard of Snarky Puppy you should check them out on youtube! It would be an extremely educational experience to see these wonderful musicians live, but it would add an additional expense plus extend the tour by one day. After speaking with the students about it, many of them were not interested in looking into this due to the increase in cost and missed day of school as we would have to drive back on Monday. However, I have had a few students and parents approach me about seeing if we could have a small group of students that are interested in staying to see Snarky Puppy perform on Sunday, separate from the tour and then find an alternate way home. If there is any interest in this, I am highly motivated to help students see these amazing musicians! It is too good of an opportunity to not at least put out to families. Working with our administration, we would like to explore the feasibility of running a small extended tour open to our grade 11 and 12 students. The idea here is that this would be trial run with a small group of senior students that would allow us to see if we can do deviations like this with larger groups in future tours.
Here are the loose details of what it would entail:
Our mode of transportation home would depend on the level of interest by families. If we only had a few students that were interested, we would rent a vehicle and I would drive students home. If we had a larger number of students and some parents that were interested in attending as well, we could look at driving back with parent volunteers.
The extra cost for this detour would be dependent on how many students are interested as we would divide the cost of hotel rooms and transportation among everyone. I would imagine that after hotel costs, transportation and tickets, we would be looking at between $100 and $150 extra charge. The concert tickets themselves are very reasonable at $33 US per ticket, but the venue is almost sold out!
It is not 100% guaranteed that we are doing this extra performance option! It will be dependent on the response I receive and the school districts approval.
If you are in Grade 11 or 12 and are interested in exploring this option, please fill out the following form by this Friday, Dec. 8th! (sorry for the short notice, but we need to purchase tickets before they are sold out!) Once I have tallied the response I will let everyone know if this is a viable option or not.

Here are the loose details of what it would entail:
- Sunday, Feb. 25th – the main tour departs in the morning and travels back to Kelowna with Mr. Schnellert and Mr. Bach.
- Students participating in the optional Snarky Puppy concert detour leave from our hotel in Pullman Washington with Ms. Frederick in either a rented vehicle driven by Ms. Frederick, or depending on how many students are interested, with a parent volunteer willing to drive down and meet us in Pullman and drive students to Seattle.
- The remainder of the tour continues home to Kelowna with Mr. Schnellert and Mr. Bach.
- The Snarky Puppy detour stays an extra night in Seattle and travels home Monday morning.
