2017: "Regrowth" The Netherlands & Germany
We connected cultural and historical learning and inquiries to create this musical presentation that was shared with communities in Kelowna and the Netherlands.
OKM Senior Concert Band students learned about Canada's role in the Liberation of the Netherlands, and developed this musical project to perform live in communities in the Netherlands and the Okanagan.

Our students retraced the steps taken by Canadian and Allied soldiers into the Liberation of the Netherlands during World War II. We wanted to honour our veterans, and learn the stories and the culture of the people from the 1930's until today. We collaborated with local and international historians to create a piece called "Regrowth", where music was set to images including our Band students family members who were Canadian veterans, and images of the towns they helped to liberate. We performed this in Holland together with Dutch musicians, in these same towns, and for our Kelowna community at the OKM Remembrance Day assemblies, and public concerts.
Our "Regrowth" project shows how music can be a wonderful catalyst for 21st learning, connecting students, subjects, families, and even countries together. Mr. Keith Boehmer, expert Military Historian with the Okanagan Military Museum, is an incredible resource for everyone in the Okanagan, and we are grateful that his expert support guided us throughout this project. We are humbled, honoured, and grateful that OKM Band Students' creation of of "Regrowth" will be shared into perpetuity as a our OKM donation into the Vince Bezeau Military Library and Archives at the Okanagan Military Museum.
