2024 BC Interior Jazz Festival
We are incredibly excited for this year's BC Interior Jazz Festival! We have lots of groups performing and some amazing evening concerts lined up. Below is the schedule for each ensemble. Please make sure you are aware of your times! All students EXCEPT the Jazz 9/10 Band are required to arrange their own transportation to and from the festival.
FEE
There is a $30 fee for this festival which covers entrance fees, tickets to the Jazz Artists Concert (regularly $40), adjudication fees, and workshops. The fee will be paid through school cash online. Once the fee is active and ready to go, you will receive an email letting you know it's active. As always, please reach out if making this payment is challenging! We have financial support for families that need it.

All Grade 9 and 10 music students will be travelling together by bus at 11:15am and will have the opportunity to watch a few other groups perform before us. As such, we require students to be picked up from the venue after our performance and clinic, which ends at approximately 2:45pm. Please reach out to Ms. Frederick ASAP if you are unable to find transportation home from the KCT and we will find a solution!
Jazz Artists' Showcase Concert featuring Brad Turner and the BCIJF Big Band 7:00 PM(at the KCT - see poster below)
Tickets are purchased for all students as part of our festival registration fees. This is an incredible show and it is a mandatory part of the festival. Parents should come too! Tickets are available for $40 at the KCT Box office and online! OKM will all sit together as a group and Ms. Frederick and Mr. Griffin will hand out tickets to the students beforehand.

Student Showcase Concert! 7:30 PM
Location: The Kelowna Community Theatre
The most outstanding ensembles from each category will be selected to perform in the Student Showcase Concert. It is an incredible honour to be selected and all students MUST attend the concert and be available to perform! The ensembles are not selected until their category has closed, so for all grade 11 and 12 Jazz Bands, we won't know until right before the concert! Everyone must be connected to and watching our google classrooms and have their phones on and ready to receive a call. We will post as soon as our categories have been announced. Even if we are not selected, we want to be able to celebrate and cheer on the bands and performers. It is a wonderful way to end the festival.
CONCERT ATTIRE:
When performing at festivals, we must all be in our most professional clothing. We are graded on our appearance and it helps to set the tone of our performance. Students must in professional clothes with ABSOLUTELY NO DESIGNS, COLOURS, STRIPES, etc.
Boys: white collared dress shirt (tucked in), Black blazer, black dress pants, black dress shoes, black socks, and an OKM black tie. Ties will be handed out and provided for students. These ties are on LOAN and must be returned to OKM or students will be charged for their replacement.
Girls: solid black blouse and dress pants/skirt/dress. If wearing a skirt or dress, students must have black nylons or leggings. Black dress shoes.
PARENTS:
Please come and cheer us on! It is so awesome to have friendly faces in the audience and these groups have all been working incredibly hard. We are really proud to showcase their skills. Tickets to watch the daytime Jazz Band performances at the Kelowna Community Theatre are $6 for a 1- day pass or $10 for a 3-day pass. Tickets to watch the combo performances at the RCA are by donation at the door. Tickets to the Student Showcase Concert on Saturday night are $14 and available through the KCT Box Office.
VOLUNTEERS:
This festival is completely run by volunteer! Mr. Griffin is the coordinator of the entire festival and Ms. Frederick is a main committee member. It requires a lot of help from SD23 students to make everything come together. If your child has signed up to work as a volunteer for the festival, we will be sending home a separate schedule and permission form. Please be patient as it is taking us a lot to get all the pieces organized! Thank you to all students for helping! We couldn't run the festival without you.
Please check the website for updates and reach out anytime if you have questions or concerns. Thanks so much for your support! We can't wait to hit the stage in April!
